Design concept
The project avoids treating a large villa as a pure display of luxury. Instead, it builds a modern understated atmosphere through relationships between rooms. The living room, dining room, kitchen, and tea room are visually extended through soft separation, while bedrooms, bathrooms, the media room, and gardens respond to rest, bathing, hosting, and private time.

Project Basics
This 500 sqm villa in Shenzhen was planned as a full-service design project with a renovation budget of around RMB 1.8 million. Although the original home had generous area, it only offered three bedrooms, lacked a helper room, and did not meet the owners’ need for a dedicated tea room.
Layout Reorganization
After replanning, the home was reorganized into four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two living/dining areas, a tea room, a private media room, three gardens, a helper room, and an elevator area. The goal was not simply to add rooms, but to give each family, hosting, leisure, service, and private function a clear place.
Living Room
The living room feels open not only because of its size, but because full-height windows on two sides connect it to the garden and outdoor greenery. A conversational layout keeps the room formal but relaxed. The beige base is calm, while a maple-red lounge chair, objects, and water-grown planting give the space focus and energy. A clean wall with abstract art and a technology-integrated fireplace improves both atmosphere and comfort.
Dining Room and Tea Room
Even in a large home, material relationships, proportion, and connection between rooms remain essential. The dining area integrates an existing structural column with the dining table and marble shelf to form a 5.2 m long table. The entry view toward the stair and suspended bar enriches the arrival experience. The tea room is a calm intervention within a standard-height room, using faux beams, clean timber furniture, and washi-style sliding doors.
Kitchen and Bathrooms
The kitchen uses a three-sided U-shaped layout with tall storage and wide countertops, supporting both daily cooking and the storage needs of a large home. The bathroom suite uses a three-part arrangement, grey tiles, and carefully positioned ambient lighting to make bathing more comfortable while keeping functions clearly separated.
Main Suite, Guest Rooms, and Stair
In the main suite, the window-side area is divided into a study, while the darker side becomes the sleeping area. Concealed lighting makes the bedroom easier to relax in at night, and a full-glass wardrobe responds to the owner’s expectations for the dressing area. Guest rooms stay minimal, with recessed walls adding depth. The ground-floor bedroom connects directly to the garden, while the stair keeps its structural layering and uses glass railings for a lighter circulation experience.
